After the historic decision of the Supreme Court regarding the sedition law, all the reactions have started coming. Soon after the Supreme Court verdict, Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju said he “respects the court and its independence”, but there is a “lakshman line” that cannot be crossed.
After the decision of the Supreme Court, the sedition law will remain on hold for the time being as the government is yet to review it. Till then the accused lodged in jail on charges of sedition can approach the courts for bail. The Supreme Court today rejected the Centre’s argument that such trials should continue in courts as charges like terrorism may be involved.
