Deeds of former ISI chief
A report published in The New York Times stated that Rahman Khan had helped the mujahideen in Afghanistan receive billions of dollars in cash and other aid from the United States and other countries to support the fight against the Soviet Union.
The Dawn newspaper quoted the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) report as saying that Saudi Arabia and US funding for the Mujahideen fighters battling Russia’s presence in Afghanistan went to the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Swiss bank account. Quoting the report, the newspaper said that the final recipient in this process was Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence Group (ISI) led by Akhtar Rehman.
Average 4.42 million Swiss francs deposited in Pakistani accounts
The News International newspaper reported that Pakistanis had an average of 4.42 million Swiss francs in their accounts. The Pakistani newspaper further mentioned that the reality of many political figures was exposed, they did not mention these accounts when they were in power. The new leaks are similar to the so-called Panama Papers in 2016, the Paradise Papers in 2017, and last year’s Pandora Papers.
As The New York Times reports, a whistle-blower leaked data about more than 18,000 bank accounts to the German newspaper Sudeutsch Zeitung, totaling more than $100 billion. More revelations are expected in the coming days, as more details about the leaks will be revealed.
