A traffic police officer arrested for corruption and taking bribe, house raided
Can a government official be in good enough condition to use the sleeping toilet in his house? You might be shocked to hear this but this happened in Russia where a traffic police officer was arrested on charges of corruption and taking bribes and when his house was searched the investigators were teary-eyed. When the investigation team raided the house of the accused, they were stunned to see his mansion, luxurious rooms, expensive furniture and gold toilets. The officials later also released footage of all the properties acquired through corruption.
In fact, the Russian Investigative Committee arrested police officer Alexei Safonov and six others in a corruption case in the southern region of Stavropol. These people were arrested on suspicion of taking money in return for giving permission to a criminal gang. When officers raided Safonov’s mansion, several items were found, including a sleeping toilet. The decoration of the house was such that it seemed that it was the house of a king. According to one report, the criminal gang was given a grain cargo transport permit in exchange for a bribe on Alexei Safonov. Due to the permission, the transporters easily crossed the police check post and there was no checking of them.
Russia’s foreign intelligence service said in a statement released on Friday, “The arrested officers took 19 million rubles, or 1,91,77,266 as bribes.
The arrested accused include a former senior traffic officer, a traffic inspector and four civilians. Alexander Khinstein, a senior politician for the country’s largest political party United Russia, said more than 35 traffic police officers have been detained as part of a massive operation. For investigation, around 80 properties of the accused officers were raided, in which huge amount of cash, expensive cars and documents were seized.
