London. US intelligence has claimed that Russia is using secret ‘decoy Dart’ missiles to strike Ukrainian targets, which they refused to export to prevent reverse-engineering the West. This information has been given in the report of Daily Mail. Mobile rocket launchers in Russia and Belarus are believed to be shooting down Moscow’s Iskander-M missiles to fool Ukraine’s air defense.
These dart-shaped weapons, originally believed to be cluster bombs, have been seen on social media since the beginning of Russia’s invasion, the report said.
The Daily Mail reported that to hit key targets, the Russian military uses Iskander missiles, which have a range of 500 kilometers, nearly 300 miles, and carry more powerful warheads. It can destroy large buildings and some fortified facilities.
A US intelligence official has claimed that the Darts protect the Iskander rockets from air defense missiles by using heat-seeking and radar technology to fool defense systems.
He confirmed the darts used with the Iskander missiles and worked drawings.
Some of the Iskander missiles were reportedly fired from the territory of Russian ally Belarus, which has served as a platform for a Russian offensive.
Countering these short-range ballistic missiles has proved a difficult task for Ukrainian air defense systems trying to deter an attack targeting civilians in Kyiv and Kharkiv.
