Uttarakhand: Even Congress CM face Harish Rawat could not win: In Devbhoomi Uttarakhand (70 seats), BJP is going to form the government for the second time in a row on the basis of Modi magic. It is the first party to do so in the state. The defeat of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in Khatima has dealt a blow to the party. For the first time in the history of 21 years, no Chief Minister could win the election. Seats have also decreased by 10 from last time.

The BJP won 20 seats in the 40-seat assembly. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant staked claim to form the government with three independents and two MLAs of the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party. Former CM Manohar Parikar’s son Utpal Parikar lost. He stood as an independent.
In the by-election to Majuli seat of Assam, ruling BJP candidate Bhuban Gam defeated Chittaranjan Basumatari of Asom Jatiya Parishad, the joint candidate of the opposition alliance, by 42,141 votes. Bhuban Gam got 67,242 votes and Basumatari got 25101 votes. During the March 7 by-elections, 71.76 per cent of the total 1.33 lakh people exercised their franchise. The seat fell vacant after former Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonewal was elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha on September 27 last year.
