Bollywood’s famous director Sanjay Leela Bhansali is celebrating his 59th birthday today i.e. on February 24. The amazing thing is that on February 25, a day after Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s birthday, his much awaited film ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ is all set to release. However, two days before the release, the director’s film is facing many court cases. First the family members of the real Gangubai and now the residents of Kamathipura have objected to the film. But this isn’t the first time. Even before this, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s films have faced even bigger controversies. I know about the films directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, which have created a ruckus.
Padmavati
Padmavati can be called Bhansali’s most controversial film till date. The film starring Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh made headlines for manipulating facts and hurting the sentiments of Rajputs. The film, based on the life of Rani Padmavati, faced some major protests before its release. The protest was so strong that the Karni Sena destroyed the set of the film in Jaipur’s Jaigarh Fort. Not only this, he even slapped Bhansali.
Bajirao Mastani
Bajirao Mastani’s dialogue “Bajirao Ne Mastani Se Mohabbat Ki Ayashi Nahi” was found by some to be obscene and due to this it did not take long for the film to get embroiled in controversies. The Mastani descendants had several problems with the film, as they found that the cast of the film was unsuitable for the characters they were playing.
Goliyon Ki Ram-Leela
The name of this film is enough to hurt many. When Sanjay Leela Bhansali revealed the name of the film, many got angry. He said that the names of two revered deities have been used in the film for the characters who do wrong and obscene acts. An FIR was also registered against the makers and eventually they had to change the name.
Request
Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai starrer film was also surrounded by controversies. Sanjay Leela Bhansali was accused of theft. The director was said to have plagiarized the story of the film from veteran writer Dayanand Rajan’s unpublished novel ‘Summer Snow’.
