Alia Bhatt starrer and Sanjay Leela Bhansali-directed ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ released in theaters on Friday and is receiving an overwhelming response from the audience and critics alike. Gangubai Kathiawadi had a great opening day at the box office with a collection of Rs 10.5 crore. The film had earned Rs 13.32 crore on the second day i.e. Saturday. Now the collection of the third day has also come to the fore.
According to the initial trends, the film has done a business of 15 to 15.6 crores on the third day i.e. Sunday. Which is about 20 percent more than the first and second day’s earnings of this film. However, Gangubai is falling lighter than Bhansali’s last three films. Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film ‘Padmavat’, which released in 2018, did a great job with an opening of Rs 24 crores. The film played Deepika’s dank at the box office by earning Rs 114 crore in the first weekend itself.
Bhansali’s film ‘Bajirao Mastani’, released in 2015, had an opening of Rs 12.80 crore. Deepika Padukone’s film had earned Rs 46.77 crore till the first weekend. The opening day of the film ‘Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ramleela’ may have been only Rs 16 crores, but when the film started receiving praise, the film managed to earn Rs 52.75 crores in the first weekend itself.
Due to the holiday of Mahashivratri on Tuesday, March 1, the film’s performance is expected to be excellent. The budget of ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ is said to be around Rs 165 crore. In such a situation, if the film does not touch the 100 crore mark soon, then it will be given the title of flop. Actually Alia’s film is getting tough competition from Ajith’s Tamil film Valimai and Pawan Kalyan’s Telugu film Bhimla Nayak.
