Panaji. BJP’s 20-member Legislature Party leader Pramod Sawant on Monday staked claim to form the government in Goa with the support of three independent MLAs and two Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) legislators.
Sawant, along with letters of support from three independent MLAs and MGP Legislature Party leader Sudin Dhavalikar, conveyed the party’s proposal to elect him as the leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislature party to Governor P.S. Sreedharan Pillai.
After this, Governor P.S. Sreedharan Pillai appointed Sawant as the Chief Minister.
48-year-old Sawant has earlier held the post of Chief Minister from 2019-2022 and is currently working as the caretaker Chief Minister of the state.
Sawant’s candidature was supported at a meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s 20-member legislature party on Monday in the presence of BJP’s Central Parliamentary Board envoy and Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar and the party’s election-related affairs in-charge and former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. it was done.
Earlier, Tomar had formally announced the appointment of Pramod Sawant as the leader of the BJP Legislature Party.
