Jaipur . On the fifth day of the ongoing ten-day Rajivika Saras National Craft Fair at Shilpgram, Jawahar Kala Kendra, a crowd of people was seen. Women artisans from across the country including Rajasthan are participating in this fair with their handmade products. The Saras Mela, organized every year with the aim of giving a national identity to the products being made by women belonging to self-help groups, has emerged as a unique identity of rural India. The applique work done on clothes by Radha Devi of Mahadev Self Help Group of Barmer is being well-liked by the people.
Special handmade products from different districts of Rajasthan, which are also the identity of that district, are brought here for display and sale in the fair. In this Rajsamand’s Meenakari, Dausa leather footwear, Barmer’s embroidery, Pali’s earthworm, Jaisalmer’s applique work, Jhalawar’s natural honey are prominent.
Cultural programs are organized every evening of the fair to entertain the visitors. In this episode, today Kalbelia dance was performed by the self-help group artists of Jaisalmer, which was highly appreciated by the audience.
