Wayanad. Siddharthan JS, a 20-year-old veterinary student, was “continuously” attacked for about 29 hours by senior students and classmates before he committed suicide. This information was given in a media report. The body of the student was found hanging inside the bathroom of the college hostel in Kerala’s Wayanad district on February 18.
Citing information from the Kerala Police file handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), an Indian Express report said Siddharthan was “physically and mentally tortured” by superiors and colleagues, causing him to lose his temper. Was forced to take his life. The CBI took over the investigation into the death of a second year student of the College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences in Wayanad district of Kerala on the evening of April 5.
What does the police report say?
Citing police documents, The Indian Express reported that Siddharthan was subjected to ‘brutal ragging’ by his colleagues and superiors from 9 am on February 16 to 2 pm on February 17. He allegedly attacked her with his hands and using a belt. According to the report, he was completely under mental stress due to ragging.
The police document said, “Siddharthan began to feel that he could neither continue his studies at the institute nor complete the course nor leave the course and go home. Since he was under a lot of mental stress, he felt he had no option but to commit suicide, he committed suicide by hanging himself in the bathroom of the men’s hostel between 12.30 and 13.45 pm on February 18.”
The report said, “The police had initially registered a case of unnatural death, but during the investigation so far, from the report presented by the anti-ragging squad of the college, from the statement of the college dean, the autopsy “As per the statement of the medical officer who conducted the test and other witnesses, it is understood that Siddharthan was ‘physically and mentally tortured’ by some senior students and classmates.”
Meanwhile, officials said that a CBI team along with the forensic team will soon visit the state. As per procedure, CBI starts investigation in such state referred cases by re-registering the FIR with the local police. After completion of the investigation, the findings which are submitted to the court in the form of a final report may be completely different from the allegations made in the FIR.
