New Delhi: Yesterday, i.e. Wednesday, was a very heartbreaking day for India. Yesterday, India was eyeing gold in the Paris Olympics. But it did not happen. The highest hopes were from Vinesh Phogat and Mirabai Chanu. But along with both of them, India’s hopes were also shattered. Along with both of them, the weight also gave pain to India.
In fact, India’s dream of winning a medal in weightlifting in Paris Olympics was shattered when Mirabai Chanu of India could only finish fourth by lifting 199 kg in the 9 kg category. With this, India’s hope of winning a medal in weightlifting ended. Chanu was the only weightlifter to qualify for the Paris Olympics. She won the silver medal in Tokyo Olympics.

This is how Chanu missed
Chanu was performing well in the first round of snatch, but lost in the second round of clean and jerk. Mirabai Chanu lifted 88 kg in snatch. While in clean and jerk she managed to lift 111 kg. Thus her total weight was 199. She was seen fighting well, but the other participants also performed brilliantly and lifted more weight than her. In this way Mirabai missed the medal after coming very close to it.
Vinesh will be sad for the rest of her life
The whole country is currently engaged in encouraging Indian female wrestler Vinesh Phogat. Something similar happened to her on 7 August, where she was disqualified from Paris Olympics 2024 due to weight gain of 100 grams. After this news, not only the country but Vinesh also broke down. Today morning i.e. on 8 August, she announced her retirement.
It is known that Vinesh Phogat, considered one of the best wrestlers of India, was born in 1994. Vinesh’s uncle Mahavir Phogat introduced Vinesh and her sister Babita Phogat to wrestling at a very young age. Vinesh followed in the footsteps of her cousins Geeta and Babita and she was just 9 years old when her father passed away. Vinesh’s uncle started teaching wrestling to both the sisters and both of them tried every possible way to learn this sport.
