Mohan Prakash/Supaul. A young player from Bihar was bought by IPL franchise Lucknow Super Giants in the year 2022 for Rs 20 lakh. But, he did not get a chance to play even a single match. In the next season, he could not play a single match due to hamstring injury. Watching cricket from outside for two consecutive years, this young man heated himself so much in the furnace of struggle that when he got a chance to play this season, he took three wickets for Kings XI Punjab in the very first match. He was also chosen man of the match.
Yes! We are talking about Mayank Yadav, a resident of Ratho of Marona Dakshin Panchayat under Marona block of Supaul district of Bihar. Mayank bowled the ball at a speed of 155.8 KM/H against Kings XI Punjab captain Shikhar Dhawan. This is the fastest ball of IPL 2024 so far. Seeing Mayank’s speed, former South African fast bowler Dale Steyn himself asked, where was he hiding?
Mayank belongs to an ordinary family
Mayank’s father Prabhu Yadav makes sirens in Delhi. He tells that Mayank was fond of playing cricket since childhood. After studies, he always used to play with his classmates from the cricket field to the streets. After being highly inclined towards cricket, we also started cooperating. He tells that Mayank first started playing cricket on behalf of his school.
Looking at his performance, he was selected in the Delhi state team for the first time in the year 2019 itself. Then, two years later in the year 2022, IPL franchise Lucknow Super Giants bought him for 20 lakhs. But this time I got a chance to play. In his very first match, he bowled brilliantly and dismissed three Punjab players by giving away 27 runs in four overs and led his team to victory.
Joyful atmosphere in Kosi region
Mayank’s village is a flood affected area of Kosi region. Not only the village but also the people of the area are very happy to see the son of this area doing wonders in the IPL. Mayank’s uncle Phool Kumar is a local journalist. They tell that Mayank was also born in Delhi. He is a young man of simple and straightforward nature. She has passed 12th from Delhi itself. Whereas, his father Prabhu Yadav said that his wish was that his son should become a cricketer and bring glory to the country like Sachin Tendulkar, who is called the God of Cricket.
This was the reason why he admitted Mayank to Arya Gymkhana for preparation. After that he enrolled in Indraprastha National Cricket Academy in Delhi. His cricket guru Devendra has nurtured him by working hard day and night.
Very effective like Bumrah
Mayank Yadav has played 2 first class, 17 list and 11 T20 matches so far. In this he has taken 2, 34 and 15 wickets respectively. The most special thing about Mayank is that even in T20 cricket, his economy rate is only 6.48. His strike rate is also 13.2. Let us tell you that Bumrah, who has played 214 T20 matches, has an economy rate of 7.01 while the strike rate is 18.2.
