Srilanka Crisis Live News: Security forces have opened fire on protesters protesting outside the Rashtrapati Bhavan in Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, the police have arrested three suspects in connection with the arson in the PM’s house. Amidst the ongoing economic crisis in Sri Lanka, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has said that there is no refugee crisis as of now and India is trying to do everything possible to help Sri Lanka.
The protesters have claimed that they have received lakhs of rupees from the President’s residence. One of the protesters said that people were sleeping here, while there is no electricity in our houses.
Sri Lankan Army Chief General Shavendra Silva has urged the Sri Lankans to support the armed forces and police to ensure peace in the country. Sri Lankan President Gotabaya fled from his official residence on Saturday. The protesters occupied the Rashtrapati Bhavan and entered it. Protesters vandalized the inside of Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The protesters also ransacked the private residence of Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and set it on fire. In view of the demonstration, curfew was imposed in 7 provinces of Sri Lanka on Friday itself. But in front of the pressure of the protesters, the curfew had to be lifted on Saturday morning and after that the protesters reached the President’s residence.
Anti-government protests have been going on in Sri Lanka for several weeks and Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe resigned as Prime Minister on Saturday.
