New Delhi. Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) today successfully flight tested the indigenously developed cruise missile from the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur off the coast of Odisha. All sub-systems of the missile performed as expected during the test. To monitor the performance of the missile, the Integrated Test Range-ITR had installed several range sensors such as radar, Electro Optical Tracking System (EOTS) and telemetry at various locations. The flight of the missile was also monitored from SU-30-MK-I aircraft of the Indian Air Force.
The missile followed the prescribed path using navigation system and performed very low altitude sea-skimming flight. This successful flight test has also established the reliable performance of the indigenous operating system developed by Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE), Bengaluru. The missile is also equipped with advanced avionics and software to ensure better and reliable performance.
This missile has been developed by the Bangalore-based Defense Research and Development Organization Laboratory Aeronautical Development Establishment with the contribution of other laboratories and Indian industries. During the test, many senior scientists from various Defense Research and Development Organization laboratories and representatives of the partners in its construction were also present. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has congratulated the Defense Research and Development Organization for the successful flight-testing of the cruise missile manufactured with indigenous technology. He said that the successful development of indigenously operated long-range subsonic cruise missile is a major achievement of Indian defense research and development.
