During the hearing, the Supreme Court was told that in view of the completion of incomplete projects of Amrapali, Bank of Baroda has approved Rs 300 crore.
Senior advocate Siddharth Dave, appearing for NBCC before a bench of Justices UU Lalit and Bela M Trivedi, submitted that all the projects are safe.
He said that in the last hearing, the issue of quality of housing projects in which NBCC is the project management consultant was raised by the counsel for the home buyers. Dave said that there was negative reporting about it in the media. Dave informed the bench that his client has appointed VNIT, Nagpur and NIT, Jalandhar to conduct structural audit of the buildings.
During the hearing, Court Advisor, Senior Advocate N Venkataramani told the bench that Bank of Baroda, headed by the Consortium of Banks, has been told that an amount of Rs 300 crore has been sanctioned for Amrapali’s projects. The rest of the bank has asked for some time.
After the court advisor’s statement, the bench asked the rest of the consortium of banks to sanction funds for the project in a week and to inform by next Monday. In the last hearing, the court had asked the banks to start funding the project by March 15. The next hearing will be on Monday.
In the last hearing held on February 21, home buyers’ counsel ML Lahouti, citing quality issues of Amrapali projects, said there are major structural flaws in NBCC’s Green View Society. It has more than 650 housing units.
Lahouti had urged the apex court to take cognizance of the matter. It may be noted that NBCC is the Project Management Consultant for Amrapali Projects and it is responsible for the quality and timely completion of work.
