Champions League T20: Currently, league cricket is being played across the world on the lines of the Indian Premier League. Along with playing international matches, players also participate in these leagues. In between, you will remember that a Champions League was organized, which was played on T20 format. However, it stopped after some time. But now news is coming that the Champions League event can start again. Now it has come to light that for this, along with the Indian Cricket Board i.e. BCCI, Australia and England boards are talking to each other.
Champions League was last organized in the year 2014
The Champions League stopped about ten years ago. It was last organized in the year 2014. Then 3 IPL teams took part in it. The final saw a fierce clash between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders. However, CSK won in the end. That year, three teams from India, two each from Australia and South Africa and one each from Pakistan, West Indies and New Zealand participated in it. The first season of the Champions League was to be played in the year 2008, but it was cancelled. After this it was organized from 2009 to 2014. A total of 6 seasons were played during this period. Of these, 4 took place in India and 2 in South Africa. Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians won the title twice, while Australia’s New South Wales and Sydney Sixers won the title once.
It will be difficult to find time for the league from the busy cricket calendar
From 2014 till now i.e. in the last ten years, many more domestic T20 leagues have also started. Meanwhile, news has come out quoting PTI that Cricket Victoria CEO Nick Cummins said that creating a window for the Champions League in such a busy cricket calendar is the biggest challenge. Speaking on the occasion of partnering with Khelomore to launch the Melbourne Cricket Academy in India, he said that I think the Champions League was a premature initiative. At that time T20 cricket was not played that much, but now it is played. He said that Cricket Australia, ECB and BCCI are talking about restarting it. It is possible that the first Champions League will be in women’s cricket, in which teams from WPL, The Hundred and Women’s Big Bash League will play.
How was the journey of 6 years of Champions League?
The first Champions League champion team of 2009 was the New South Wales Blues. In the year 2010, Chennai Super Kings captured this title. In the year 2013, Mumbai Indians won the title by defeating Rajasthan Royals. After this, in the year 2014, Chennai Super Kings won the trophy by defeating KKR by eight wickets.
