Washington: Two influential US lawmakers have said that Chinese military company BGI is trying to set up a new company ‘Inomics’ in Massachusetts and Kentucky to avoid regulatory scrutiny. Mike Gallagher, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Strategic Competition between the US and the ‘Chinese Communist Party’, and its ranking member Raja Krishnamurthy have written this letter to US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.
Demand to keep an eye on Chinese companies
In the letter, American lawmakers also expressed concern about Chinese biotech companies operating in America. Lawmakers claim that these Chinese biotech companies working in America are working only for the purposes of the Chinese Army and the Communist Party of China. In the letter, US lawmakers appealed to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to implement Section 1312 of the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2024 and also demanded to keep an eye on China’s biotech (biotechnology) companies.
Chinese army wants to dominate
US lawmakers Gallagher and Raja Krishnamurthy have demanded in the letter that the Pentagon recognize MGI Group, Complete Genomics, Inomics, Stomix, OriginCell, Vajme Biotech and Xbio as Chinese military companies. It is being claimed that MGI Group and Complete Genomics companies are subsidiaries of Chinese military company BJI.
Serious allegations have been made against the company
It is worth noting that, BGI has also been facing serious allegations like human rights oppression and collecting biological data illegally. The MPs wrote that under China’s fourteenth five-year plan, the Chinese army wants to establish its dominance in the field of biotech. Quoting the academic literature of the Chinese military, American lawmakers claimed that biotechnology will be very important in future wars. Dangerous bacteria can be created under this. In such a situation, there is a need to immediately identify Chinese biotech companies working in America. (Language)
