Firozpur. A 19-year-old youth was beaten to death on Saturday for allegedly desecrating Sri Guru Granth Sahib at a Gurudwara in Punjab’s Firozpur. This alleged incident of sacrilege took place in Bandala village of Firozpur.
According to information received from the police, Bakshish Singh, a resident of Talli Ghulam village, had allegedly torn some pages of the Sikh holy book Guru Granth Sahib after entering the Gurudwara located in Bandala village. After this, the people present there caught him and beat him to death.

The police had registered an FIR against the youth on charges of sacrilege. According to the police, the matter worsened when Bakshish tried to run away by tearing the pages. Police said he was caught by the local people, who had gathered at the gurudwara after getting information about the incident. They beat Bakshish badly.
On the other hand, Bakshish’s father Lakhwinder Singh said that he was mentally ill and was undergoing treatment. Bakshish’s father demanded the police to register a case against those who killed his son.
After this incident, senior police officers including Senior Superintendent of Police Soumya Mishra reached the village. Akal Takht’s Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh expressed grief over the incident of sacrilege in Ferozepur.
