20 teams are playing in T20 World Cup 2024
20 teams from all over the world are going to participate in the T20 World Cup 2024, their names have been announced. Earlier, when this tournament was held in the year 2022, 16 teams had participated, but this is the first time that 20 teams will participate in it. West Indies and USA are the hosts, so their places were already confirmed. After this, the teams which were in the top 8 in the 2022 World Cup have also got direct entry. Apart from Team India, it includes Australia, England, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa and Sri Lanka.
ICC ranked teams also got entry
The teams which were in the top 10 in the ICC T20 rankings till 14 November 2022 have also been given a place. That’s why Afghanistan and Bangladesh have got a place. After this, the rest of the teams have come after playing the qualifiers, which was organized by the ICC recently. From Europe, Ireland and Scotland have got the place. PNG i.e. New Papua Guinea from East Asia Pacific has confirmed its place for participation in this. Canada has been given place from America and Nepal and Oman from Asia. Namibia and Uganda have got entry from Africa Qualifier. In this way there are 20 teams in total.
ICC made 4 groups for the World Cup
Now if we talk about groups, ICC has divided 20 teams into a total of 4 groups. India and Pakistan have been placed in Group A. Apart from this, the other teams which have got place in it include teams from Ireland, Canada and USA. Apart from England and Australia, Group B has teams from Namibia, Scotland and Oman.
Super 8 matches will be held after the group stage
ICC has placed Afghanistan, PNG and Uganda apart from New Zealand and West Indies in Group C of the World Cup. Apart from South Africa and Sri Lanka, Group D has teams from Bangladesh, Netherlands and Nepal. That is, ICC has taken care that apart from the two big teams in each group, the rest of the teams should be kept small, so that all the teams have full opportunity to move ahead. The teams that will remain in the top 2 in their respective groups will move to the Super 8. The journey of the rest of the teams will end there.
