West Bengal Governor CV Anand Bose has criticized Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee after the murder of a woman in Nandigram in East Medinipur district. Bose has demanded immediate action on the matter. According to a source, CV Anand Bose directed Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee to take immediate action and submit a report on the incident. Bose’s official letter to Banerjee stressed that the model code of conduct should be followed in all necessary actions, which is in force due to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
A Scheduled Caste woman, who was a BJP worker, was killed in Nandigram on Wednesday night, West Bengal police said. Following the incident, BJP workers staged a massive protest on Thursday, May 23, 2024. The West Bengal BJP accused TMC leader Mamata Banerjee and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee of instigating violence in Nandigram ahead of the May 25 election. “This violence happened due to the instigation of the chief minister and her nephew,” BJP state general secretary and spokesperson Jagannath Chattopadhyay said.
Chattopadhyay said that Leader of Opposition in the Assembly and BJP MLA from Nandigram Suvendu Adhikari visited the affected area in the Tamluk Lok Sabha constituency. He claimed that the TMC realised that it would lose all the eight seats in the sixth phase of polling, which led to the ruling party’s attempt to suppress BJP leaders and workers. Governor Bose’s intervention highlights the growing tension and political violence in West Bengal as the state moves towards a crucial electoral phase.
