Chennai. State Education Minister Ambil Mahesh Poyamozhi said here on Wednesday that the Tamil Nadu government will demolish a total of 10,030 poor condition government schools and build new buildings in their place. During this financial year, the state government has allocated an amount of Rs 1,300 crore for this.
The minister said in a statement that the government is ready for major developments in the field of school education and smart classrooms will be created to introduce children to all areas of learning.
A plan is also being made to construct 18,000 new classrooms and other infrastructure for schools at a cost of Rs 7,000 crore in five years under the ‘Anbazhagan School Development Scheme’.
Minister Poyamozhi said that district collectors and MLAs have been asked to identify the school buildings to be constructed on priority basis.
The minister said that there is a government order which states that two school teachers will have to be present at the time of disembarkation of the children from the school bus and they have to ensure that the children reach the classes and only then let the school buses go back.
He was referring to the death of a Class II student who was run over by a school bus. He said that the government would take up the matter with the school authorities in the meeting of district education officers to be held on April 4.
Apart from this, the government is making efforts to increase the academic output of the students and regular monitoring of the students will be done.
