Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole has attacked the BJP. He said on Wednesday that the Bombay High Court has dismissed the petition of BJP MLA Girish Mahajan challenging the process of selection of Speaker, which is a slap on the BJP. Patole said that considering the order of the High Court, Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari should appoint 12 members to the Legislative Council from the Governor’s quota. Also, the facility of the election of the President should be provided.
He said that the High Court has observed that an amount of Rs 12 lakh including Rs 10 lakh deposited by the petitioner Girish Mahajan and Rs 2 lakh by Janak Vyas has been forfeited. This is a big setback for the BJP. He hoped that the Governor would soon decide on the election of the Speaker and pending nomination of 12 members to the Legislative Council.
Noting the differences between Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Governor B S Koshyari on various issues, the High Court on Wednesday said it was unfortunate that the two highest constitutional functionaries of the state did not trust each other.
A bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Dutta and Justice MS Karnik said it would be appropriate for the Chief Minister and the Governor to sit together and resolve the differences.
The High Court after hearing dismissed the petitions filed by Mahajan and Vyas. During this the High Court also said that an amount of Rs 12 lakh including Rs 10 lakh deposited by Girish Mahajan and Rs 2 lakh submitted by Janak Vyas was forfeited at the beginning of the hearing.
