The body of Chief Seaman Sitendra Singh, who went missing after a massive fire broke out on India’s flagship warship INS Brahmaputra at the Mumbai Naval Dockyard, was recovered on Wednesday. Navy officials said the warship was badly damaged and tilted to one side after the fire broke out on Sunday evening. Repair work on the ship is underway.
Navy spokesperson Commander Vivek Madhwal said that after an intensive search operation, the body of Chief Seaman Sitendra Singh was recovered today on Sunday. He said that Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi and all the personnel of the Indian Navy express their deepest condolences to the family of Sailor Sitendra Singh.
Madhwal said that the Navy Chief has issued instructions to make INS Brahmaputra capable of maritime operations again and prepare it for combat role. Admiral Tripathi called upon the crew of INS Brahmaputra to work towards the early operationalisation of the ship.
It was prepared in 6,000 crores
INS Brahmaputra was inducted into the Navy in the year 2000. It has been engaged in the security of the country for more than two decades. It is said that the accident that happened during the repair has caused a loss of thousands of crores of rupees. Because the cost of building this ship was Rs 6,000 crores. This warship was 125 meters long and weighed 3850 tons.
