Kevin compares AI-interconnected machine learning tools to the ‘evolution of the digital brain’. He says that just as we do not yet fully understand the human brain, we may reach a point where we do not understand AI. Kevin said on the future crisis, ‘If we make computers smarter than humans, what will be left for humans?’ He warned that the rapid development of AI is comparable to the threat posed by nuclear weapons.
‘The next war will be between AI and humans’
Kevin said that this technology is developing very fast and the fear is that these ‘AI brains’ will soon reach the level of ‘more intelligent than human’. ‘Can we even survive this?’ Speaking with The Sun Online, Kevin said: ‘It is already doing many of the things a human brain can do.’ He warned that in the coming times, there would not be a war between two countries but a ‘battle between AI and humanity’.
Warning from the ‘Godfather of AI’
This is not the first time a scientist involved in the development of AI has warned about its future. Geoffrey Hinton, known as the ‘Godfather of AI’, resigned from his job at Google a few days back. Hinton said he ‘regrets his deed’. He said, ‘I left my job so that I could openly talk about the dangers of AI.’ He was associated with Google for over a decade.
