Melbourne. The captain of the Australian team that visited India last year had decided to leave the tour midway and return home. Then the news came out that due to his mother being ill he had to return to Australia. Beech went home for the series and Steve Smith took command of the team in his place. Now Kangaroo captain Pat Cummins has revealed that going to India was a very difficult decision for him.
Australian captain Pat Cummins has still not recovered from the shock of his mother’s death. He said that going to India for the Test series when his mother was undergoing treatment here was the most difficult time of his life. Cummins’ mother Maria died last year due to cancer.
Cummins said in a podcast, “When I was getting on the plane, I knew that I would have to return in a few weeks.”
He left the India tour midway and returned. He said, “Moving away at that time was the most difficult time of my life.” Whenever I went out, I felt like I was deliberately choosing to play instead of spending time at home. But my parents were very happy to see me playing and this gave me the confidence to play.
Even after his mother became ill, Pat Cummins had decided to come to India to play the Test series. Talking about this, he said, “All the time I was in India, my mind remained at home.”
