The coal crisis in Maharashtra has deepened. State Energy Minister Nitin Raut said on Wednesday that the next two days are going to be very important for the state. He said that the demand for electricity has increased in the state due to the heat while there is not enough supply of coal. He said that the State Government is trying to avoid such situation in which it does not have to implement load shedding.
Raut said, “The supply of coal in the last two days has been very less, which is creating a challenge for the state power generation company to meet the increasing demand of electricity. If we don’t get enough coal, the state will be affected. We are trying to avoid load shedding by exploring possibilities of increasing the availability of coal. The state will buy more power from the exchange. The current procurement of power is between 1500 MW to 2500 MW per day.
According to the data shared by Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), its dues till January this year stood at Rs 64093 crore, out of which Rs 9176 crore is with various governments alone. The power distribution company has taken a loan of Rs 47034 crore while its outstanding liability is Rs 20,268 crore.
