Prime Minister Jan Dhan Yojana completes seven years, 43 crore accounts have been opened so far
Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana has been started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to fulfill the dream of bank account of every citizen of the country. The Prime Minister’s scheme has completed seven years this year. So far more than 40 crore accounts have been opened under this scheme. Many facilities including insurance have been made available under Jan Dhan account. Today we are going to tell you about the scheme of overdraft limit given under this.
Under this scheme, even if you do not have balance in your Jan Dhan account, you can take an overdraft up to 10 thousand out of it. This facility is like a short term loan. Earlier this amount was 5 thousand rupees, for which the maximum age limit is 5 years. Any account holder can avail this facility after 6 months of successful operation of his account. However, the limit up to Rs 2000 is available without any condition.
Let us tell you that in this scheme launched by the Prime Minister, it has increased from 14.72 crore in March 2015 to 43 crore till August 18. Of these, 55% of the account holders are women. While 67% of the account population is in rural and semi-urban areas. Not only this, 36.86 crore accounts in these accounts are still in operation. So far 31.23 crore people use banking through the card under this scheme.
It is noteworthy that under this scheme, a total of Rs 30,945 crore was deposited in all current accounts of women. About 5.1 crore account holders also get direct benefit transfer from the government under various schemes.
