New Delhi/Jaipur. A year before the assembly elections, ending the infighting in the Rajasthan unit is proving to be a big challenge for the BJP. The party is trying its best to end the ongoing tussle between former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and others.
The battle has begun on the faces of the party for next year’s elections and all the camps are claiming to lead the BJP in the 2023 Rajasthan Assembly elections.
The saffron camp believes that there is a strong anti-incumbency wave against the Ashok Gehlot government and everything is moving in the right direction for the BJP’s victory in next year’s assembly elections. However, there are concerns among the workers that infighting may affect the party’s prospects.
“There is a strong anti-incumbency wave against the Gehlot government. No government in the history of India has faced so much anti-incumbency wave before completing the first part of its term and it is increasing day by day. The party Will overthrow this corrupt and incompetent government next year.”
But the main challenge is to form a united front in the next assembly elections. Describing the state of Rajasthan BJP, a party leader said that our main concern is not the Congress party, but factionalism and infighting. The infighting between the supporters of both the camps is hurting the party more than the Congress.
Since Raje is not on the same page as the state leadership, his supporters are running a parallel organization by starting ‘Vasundhara Raje Samarth Manch Rajasthan’ by showing strength and organizing programs to put the party in an awkward position.
On the other hand, the BJP state leadership is taking action against his supporters on the basis of discipline to send a message to his camp.
Raje did one such power display on his birthday on March 8. His supporters are trying to force the central leadership to announce him as the party’s face in the late 2023 Rajasthan assembly elections.
Raje’s differences with Rajasthan BJP president Satish Poonia is an open secret in the state. Poonia celebrated her birthday in October last year to show her strength. The Poonia camp claimed that most of the party’s MLAs, several former MLAs and about a dozen MPs had attended the event.
After Raje’s birthday celebrations, Rajasthan BJP in-charge Arun Singh had said that it is okay to celebrate birthdays, but it should be remembered that the party is supreme and everyone comes later.
Referring to the statements made by Raje’s supporters during the birthday celebrations, Singh had said that the party was maintaining a record of all such statements and would take action at the right time. Such party workers should not complain if action is taken against them.
Citing the example of the party’s defeat in last year’s bypolls, a leader said there were some reasons for the BJP’s defeat in the bypolls but the main reason was infighting and lack of unity.
There have been attempts to sideline Raje within the party over the years, and this started even before the last assembly election in 2018. But despite all this, he was appointed as the National Vice President of the BJP and still has a strong influence in the Rajasthan unit of the party.
