The Bhagwant Mann-led government of Punjab has reconstituted the Special Investigation Team probing the drug-related case. Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia is an accused in this case. Majithia, who was a minister in the SAD-BJP government, was booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) on December 20 last year.
According to a new order of the Bhagwant Mann government of Punjab, the SIT has been constituted under the supervision of Inspector General of Police (Crime) Gursharan Singh Sandhu. Other members of the SIT include Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Rahul S. and Ranjit Singh Dhillon, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Raghbir Singh and Amarpreet Singh.
It is noteworthy that earlier the SIT constituted by the Charanjit Singh-led government was headed by AIG Balraj Singh. The state crime branch had registered a 49-page FIR against Majithia (46) at its Mohali police station last year. Majithia is the wife of SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal and brother of former Union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal.
