New Delhi. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Friday imposed a fine of Rs 80 lakh on the popular airline Air India. This action was taken on the airlines due to violation of norms related to flight duty time limit and flight crew fatigue management system. In the present case, on March 1, the regulator had issued a show cause notice to Air India regarding the violations. DGCA says that the cabin crew and other staff working in the airlines were continuously performing duty for more time than the prescribed limit. Not only this, they were also not being given weekly leaves regularly.
DGCA had conducted a spot audit of Air India in January. During this period evidence was collected. Fleet wise random report was examined during this period. DGCA says analysis of reports and evidence has revealed that Air India had flown together in some cases with both flight crew above 60 years of age. DGCA says, ‘Deficiencies were also found in providing adequate weekly rest to the operator, adequate rest before and after ultra-long range flights and adequate rest to the flight crew on layovers, which is in violation of the existing provisions of civil aviation requirements related to FDTL.
