Anvesh Upadhyay, 30, is doing an apprenticeship in Gastroenterology from a hospital in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine.
On the third day of Russia’s attack on Ukraine, the situation is going from bad to worse. Russian troops are constantly attacking Ukraine. People in Ukraine are running from here to there to save their lives. Hundreds of Indians are also trapped in Ukraine due to this sudden attack by Russia. The Government of India is constantly working to get its people out safely and many people have also been evacuated till now. Former National Rapid Chess champion Anvesh Upadhyay is also among the Indians stranded in Ukraine.
Let us tell you that 30-year-old Anvesh Upadhyay is doing apprenticeship in Gastroenterology from a hospital in Kiev, capital of Ukraine. Anvesh, who had planned to return to India in March, is stuck in Ukraine after flights were stopped after the Russian attack. Scared by the current situation in Ukraine, Upadhyay is currently hiding alone in his apartment.
Anvesh, who was the National Rapid Chess Champion in 2017, says that it was not thought that the situation would become so uncontrollable. He said that there are 20 thousand Indians in Ukraine and out of which 4 thousand have returned to India in the last few days. Referring to the student agitation in the country in 2013 due to President Viktor Yanukovich not signing an agreement related to coming closer to the European Union, Anvesh said that the situation in Ukraine has become serious in the past, but the situation is as it is today. It’s never happened to them before.
Upadhyay said that as soon as the tension between the two countries reached its peak and it became clear that now war could break out at any time, he decided to leave Ukraine, but he did not get a flight ticket. My parents in India are worried about me. They are calling me continuously, as are my school teachers. I’m alone here in my apartment and I don’t know what’s in store? The attack happened suddenly, so nothing could be done.
