Bengaluru. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that at one time, due to the introduction of technology in accounts, chartered accountants became so angry with her that they wanted to ‘snap her neck’. Addressing a gathering at The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, Bengaluru, Sitharaman said chartered accountants wanted to ‘bring down their necks’ by introducing technology in book keeping. According to a report in ‘Business Today’, highlighting the role of technology and the ease of doing business, Sitharaman said, ‘When pre-filled forms come from the Board, CBDT, you heave a sigh of relief. Your customer also says, oh my god, yes, I forgot this, yes, this needs to be included. Or he says no, no, it’s not mine, please go back and check it. Therefore, this whole approach is instilling a lot of trust in the government and the taxpayers.
Technology is more important now than ever
Nirmala Sitharaman said that ‘such technology-driven confidence-building measures being taken by the government make you as a professional realize that technology is doing good for you and the customer.’ Union Finance Minister Sitharaman said that efficiency in maintaining accounts through technology-driven method is becoming more important as it benefits CAs. You will not hesitate to say that I am keeping the books balanced. Someone will look at the account. It is being prepared for every individual and small business to file their returns.
Technology made the work of CA simple
Nirmala Sitharaman said that ‘In fact, I remember there was complete hatred for me in the first year of my becoming Finance Minister. Oh God, your profession would make me want to cut my neck. Sitharaman said that the government wants small companies to be free to maintain their own books because technology is available to help them. The government had to send a message that we trust you for your tax returns. You do not need to prove it. Chartered accountants are not required to certify your accounts. It made his life simple.
