Chinese company Great Wall Motors (GWM) was to enter the Indian market in June 2020, however it was delayed due to cross-border tensions between India and China. The Chinese automaker has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Maharashtra government in May the same year, which involved an investment of USD 1 million by the company. But due to the ongoing border tension between the two countries, the Maharashtra government put it in cold storage.
Giving a new direction to this move, Great Wall Motors in India is now ready for the Indian market. We are saying this because the automaker has recently registered a new trademark for ‘Haval Dargo’ in the country. According to Haval, the name ‘Dargo’ means “daring to learn”. The exterior design of the SUV with the registered name of the company is reminiscent of the iconic Ford Bronco.
Reminiscent of the Iconic Bronco Design
Unlike other Chinese knock-offs, the carmaker has not completely changed the design of the American off-roader. Coming to the design, similar to the Bronco, the Dargo sports a very rugged styling, which is in the news due to the front design featuring a trapezoidal grille and a muscular front bumper housing circular LED fog lamps. There are round LED headlights on either side of the grille with integrated circular LED DRL rings. The chrome windows around the frame and doors add to the premium appeal of the SUV.

Interior and cabin updates
Inside the cabin, the Dargo gets a host of modern features including a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment display, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a multi-function steering wheel and vertical air-con vents. It also gets a chunky handlebar on the passenger side of the dashboard. As for the engine, the Dargo comes with two engine options in the international markets, which include a 1.5-litre turbo petrol unit and a 2.0-litre turbo petrol unit, both of which are mated to a 7-speed DCT AMT gearbox.
