There will be supply next year
Now it is known that under the new deadline, Russia will supply the remaining two regiments of S-400 surface-to-air missile system to India by next year. Russia has already supplied three units of long-range missile systems to India under a US$5.5 billion deal. India is purchasing missile systems primarily as part of its efforts to enhance its air power capability to deal with security challenges emanating from China.
Impact of Ukraine-Russia war
The first of the two Russian-built warships, Tushil, is expected to be delivered to India in September, sources said. He said the second warship, Tamal, would be delivered in January. He said that under the original timeline, these ships were to be delivered by 2022 but this has been delayed due to the Ukraine-Russia war. Russia is supplying ‘stealth frigates’ under the four frigate deal signed in 2018. The remaining two ships are being built in India. Sources said the supply of S-400 missile system will be completed by next year.
Range is from 40 to 400 km
The S-400 missile system will be deployed especially keeping China and Pakistan in mind. Its range is from 40 to 400 km. An agreement for this S-400 missile technology was signed between India and Russia during the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to India in October 2018.
