One of them is Pati, which is known as Artemisia Vulgaris. This plant grows twelve months a year. Although it is not very useful at the local level. However, in the neighboring country China, it is a source of employment for the farmers there. The oil produced from it is used as pesticide.
SS Rana, a pharmacist posted at Rudraprayag Hospital, says that historically Artemisia vulgaris was called the mother of herbs. It has been widely used in traditional Chinese, European and Hindu medicine. Artemisia vulgaris has anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, hepatoprotective, anti-spasmodic, antinociceptive, antibacterial, antihypertensive, anti-hyperlipidemic and antifungal properties. Besides, the oil produced from leaves is aromatic, due to which it is also counted in the category of aromatic plants. Many medicinal properties are also found in this plant. Which helps in curing stomach diseases. Its leaves remove worms from the stomach of children. Apart from this, it is also effective in treating allergies like ringworm, scabies and itching.
Paati is religiously important
Pandit Pradeep Lakheda of Chamoli tells that Paati also has its religious significance. According to religious beliefs in the hilly areas, there is no havan-sacrifice where the leaves of this plant are not used. It also has importance during Shraddha in the mountains. It is believed that no Shraddha is considered complete without this plant.
