There is a tremendous demand for SUV models in India these days, and it can be a bit strange for a car to stop production in the midst of them. Well, there can be many reasons behind not manufacturing the car. At present, the decision of Renault to stop the production of Duster is in discussion these days. After almost a decade, Renault has decided to stop production of its most successful SUV, the Duster in India.
Journey started from 2012
The Duster was in continuous production at its manufacturing facility in Sriperumbudur, Chennai since July 2012, and after this the company has now launched only three cars in the Indian lineup, the Kwid, the Triber and the Kigger. You may recall that the Duster is Renault’s first mass-market product in India, and the Duster was also the first SUV in the segment. In which later SUVs like Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos were added.

Duster became a hit upon launch
As we mentioned above, Duster first came to India in July 2012 and proved to be an instant hit. The car will be offered with three engine options at launch, a 1.6-litre petrol, a 1.5-litre diesel and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. At the same time, all these powertrains were on sale with manual gearbox as standard. After crossing the 1 lakh unit sales mark in 2014, the Renault Duster was launched in the same year with an AWD version. It was the most affordable monocoque SUV equipped with such a feature.
