Now five test matches will be played in the Border Gavaskar Trophy instead of four. Cricket Australia announced this on Monday. This will be the first time since 1991-92 that a five-Test series will be played between these two countries.
Big decision taken for test series
Cricket Australia has posted on ‘X’ that for the first time since 1991-92, a five-Test series will be played between Australia and India this summer. This series for the Border Gavaskar Trophy will be the highlight of the domestic schedule of 2024-25. The schedule of this series will be released in the coming days. But it is already decided that the Indian team will go to Australia to play the Border Gavaskar Trophy.

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah said in a Cricket Australia release that the BCCI remains steadfast in its dedication to preserving the rich heritage of Test cricket. This is a format that we respect the most. He said our collaboration with Cricket Australia to extend the Border Gavaskar Trophy to five Test matches reflects our collective commitment to promoting the importance of Test cricket.
The first test match of this series can be played in Perth. Cricket Australia President Mike Baird said that given the intense rivalry between our two countries, we are very pleased that the Border Gavaskar Trophy has now been reduced to five Test matches.
