Ranchi. Three Naxalites of the banned organization TPC (Third Presentation Committee) were killed in an encounter with the police in Sadar police station area of Latehar district of Jharkhand on Saturday. Apart from these, a Naxalite has been caught in injured condition from the spot. The bodies of the three slain Maoists have been recovered.
A police official said that information about the movement of armed squad of Naxalites was received in the remote Hesalbar area of Latehar Sadar police station area. On this a joint team of Jharkhand Police, Jharkhand Jaguar (JJ) and CRPF went out on a search operation in this area. Meanwhile, the militants started firing on the police near a forest. In response, the police also took a front and opened fire. Three Naxalites were killed in firing from both the sides for about half an hour. Jitendra Yadav, resident of Kunda police station area of Chatra district, Chanchal Singh, resident of Manika police station area of Latehar and another resident of Panki police station area are said to be among those killed. However, they have not been officially identified yet. Another Naxalite who has been arrested in injured condition has been identified as Jitendra alias Manjhi in the rank of Zonal Commander in the Naxalite organization. He has been shot in the waist. He has been admitted to the hospital for treatment. Apart from the magazine of AK-47, many weapons and other items have been recovered by the police from the encounter site.
Within the last two months, the police in Latehar and Lohardaga districts have achieved major successes in the operation against Naxalites. During this, more than two dozen Naxalites have been arrested. Five Naxalites have been killed in the encounter, while half a dozen Naxalites have surrendered.
