New Delhi. The dates of Lok Sabha elections have been announced. The first round of voting is on April 19. The Election Commission has decided to conduct voting in 7 rounds. West Bengal is also among the states where voting is to be held in 7 rounds. The ruling TMC in West Bengal had earlier demanded that voting be conducted in only one round in the state, but the Election Commission did not accept this demand. Now TMC MP Derek O’Brien has raised questions by posting on X and calling the Election Commission HMV. TMC Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien, in a post on Twitter, has accused BJP of destroying institutions like the Election Commission. He has demanded that the Lok Sabha elections should be conducted under the supervision of the Supreme Court.
BJP’s dirty tricks destroying institutions like ECI. Are BJP so nervous to face people that they are turning ECI into a party office to target Oppn? ECI or HMV? Transferring officers of elected state govts! For free and fair elections
WE WANT SUPREME COURT MONITORED ELECTION 2024—Derek O’Brien দেরেক ও’ব্রায়েন (@derekobrienmp) March 19, 2024
This is the first time that a demand for holding Lok Sabha elections under the supervision of the Supreme Court has been raised by any party. The Election Commission has talked about conducting fair elections and like every time, this time too it has justified voting through EVMs. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar had also responded to those raising questions on EVMs through a poetry. Let us tell you that all the political parties keep alleging that conducting elections through EVMs is not fair. Whereas, the Election Commission had also challenged the political parties to show hacking of EVMs.
Now Derek O’Brien has raised questions on the Election Commission and taunted it with the voice of BJP. However, despite the demand made by Derek O’Brien, it is not yet clear whether the application demanding monitoring of Lok Sabha elections will be given in the Supreme Court by TMC or not.
