Tonk. Tonk-Sawai Madhopur Lok Sabha constituency has a very unique history in itself. Candidates from all categories have become MPs from here. Earlier, Sawai Madhopur district was the only parliamentary constituency. But after delimitation in the year 2008, Tonk district was also included in it. Later this seat was known as Tonk-Sawai Madhopur parliamentary constituency. Earlier this seat was reserved for the tribal category. But now this seat is for general category. Candidates of all sections from BJP, Congress and Swatantra Party have won from this parliamentary constituency. Today PM Narendra Modi is coming here to hold an election rally. This rally of PM Modi will be held in Uniara of Tonk district.
Tonk was earlier known as the city of Nawabs. On the other hand, Sawai Madhopur has its own identity in the whole world due to Ranthambore National Park. Presently Sukhbir Singh Jaunpuriya of BJP is the MP from Tonk Sawai Madhopur Lok Sabha constituency. MPs living from this Lok Sabha constituency have also held the post of Union Minister. Among them, Namo Narayan Meena of Congress, who was MP from 2004 to 2014, remained a minister at the Center continuously. Before that, BJP’s Jaskaur Meena was also a Union Minister in 1999.
There is competition between Jaunapuriya and Meena
Presently BJP MP Sukhbir Singh Jaunapuriya has become MP twice continuously since 2014. For the third time now, BJP has expressed confidence in Jaunapuriya and made him a candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Harish Meena, younger brother of Congress’s Namo Narayan Meena, who was a former Union Minister, is currently the MLA from Deoli Uniara assembly constituency of Tonk district. This time he has been fielded as a Congress candidate from the Lok Sabha constituency.
The area is dominated by Gurjar, Meena and Muslims.
Tonk Sawai Madhopur Lok Sabha constituency is Gurjar, Meena and Muslim dominated. Even after delimitation, both the big parties BJP and Congress have fielded their candidates from these castes. This time also, keeping in mind the caste equations, both the parties have placed their bets on BJP’s Sukhbir Singh Jaunapuriya, who comes from the Gurjar community, and the Congress party on Harish Meena, who comes from the Meena community.
This Lok Sabha seat consists of eight assembly constituencies.
There are 8 assembly constituencies in Tonk Sawai Madhopur Lok Sabha seat. Of these, four assembly constituencies are in Sawai Madhopur district and four are in Tonk district. Out of 8 assembly seats, currently 4 are held by BJP and 4 by Congress. Among these, BJP has control over Sawai Madhopur and Khandar assembly seats of Sawai Madhopur. Dr. Kirodilal Meena from Sawai Madhopur and Jitend Gothwal from Khandar are currently MLAs. Whereas Bamanwas and Gangapur City seats are occupied by Congress. Indira Meena of Congress is MLA from Bamanwas and Ramkesh Meena is MLA from Gangapur City. Of the four assembly seats in Tonk district, Sachin Pilot of Congress is the MLA from Tonk assembly seat and Harishchandra Meena is the MLA from Devli Uniara seat. Whereas BJP’s Ramsahay Verma from Niwai seat and Kanhaiyalal Chaudhary from Malpura seat are currently MLAs.

There are a total of 21 lakh 20 thousand 633 voters including both the districts. Of these, 11 lakh 10 thousand 432 are male voters and 10 lakh 10 thousand 181 are female voters. 14 third gender voters are included. If we talk about caste equations, the number of Meena voters in Tonk Sawai Madhopur parliamentary constituency is considered to be around four lakhs. Whereas Gurjar voters are said to be around 3.50 lakh. The number of voters of SC category is considered to be around four and a half lakh, Muslim voters are around two and a half lakh and Brahmin voters are considered to be around one and a half lakh. Apart from these, there are 1.5 lakh Vaishya, 1 lakh Mali, 1.5 lakh Rajput and about 1 lakh backward class voters.

The number of rural voters is in abundance in Tonk-Sawai Madhopur Lok Sabha constituency. This election is completely based on caste equations. For the last ten years, BJP has been getting bumper votes here in the name of PM Modi. The equations here are based on caste equations rather than development.
