Pandya’s injury surfaced during the World Cup
The Indian all-rounder was troubled by a heel injury.
New Delhi. Indian cricket team’s experienced all-rounder Hardik Pandya has opened up about his injury for the first time. Pandya says that in his desperation to regain fitness for the World Cup matches last year, he took several injections and resorted to difficult measures like removing blood clots from his ankle. Despite this, his injury worsened and this Indian player had to sit out of the ODI World Cup. Pandya limped off the field after his first over while bowling against Bangladesh in India’s fourth match during the World Cup. He could not return to the team after this.
Hardik Pandya told Star Sports, ‘I got injections at three different places on my heel and due to swelling I had to get blood drawn from my ankle. I didn’t want to give up (on playing the remaining matches of the World Cup). I always want to give my best for the team. If there is even one percent possibility of returning to the team, I try my best. Pandya said that he knew that working hard could yield adverse results. He took this risk to return to the team during the World Cup played on home soil.

‘I wasn’t able to walk’
According to Pandya, ‘I knew that (if) I tried too hard to recover from the injury, I might get injured for a long time. While I was trying my best, the injury flared up again and turned into an injury that would take three months to recover from. I was not able to walk but I was trying to run at that time. This 30 year old player was confident of returning to the team in five days but this was not possible.
‘I tried to make a comeback for 10 days’
Pandya said, ‘When I came out of the field (after injury), I informed the team that I will come back in 5 days. I tried to come back for 10 days, took painkillers to come back and rejoin the team. But this was a different kind of injury and very few people knew about it. Pandya said that the burden of not being able to play fully in the World Cup will always be on his heart.
