Kathmandu: Nepal’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Narayan Qazi Shrestha left for China on Sunday night on his first official visit after assuming the top post. Shrestha will hold talks with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi during his visit. During his nine-day visit at Wang’s invitation, he will hold bilateral talks with his Chinese counterpart and meet high-level dignitaries, the External Affairs Ministry said in a statement without giving any details. Ahead of the China visit, External Affairs Minister Shrestha on Sunday held various meetings. Also held discussions with senior officials of the ministries. Media reports quoting External Affairs Ministry sources said that during his meeting with Chinese leaders, Shrestha will mainly focus on implementing previous agreements between the two countries.
Best will meet big leaders
Nepal’s Foreign Ministry Secretary Seva Lamsal told journalists that Foreign Minister Shrestha is scheduled to meet the Foreign Minister of China and several senior leaders of the CPC, including one of the seven leaders of the Standing Committee, the Vice Premier of China, At least three state CPC party secretaries and ministers head the CPC’s foreign department.
The leaders took a dig
Meanwhile, let us also tell here that CPN (UML) leaders have taunted Foreign Minister Shrestha for such a long visit. CPN (UML) publicity department head Vishnu Rijal has taken a dig at the nine-day long visit of the External Affairs Minister to Xi. He wrote that how does the Foreign Minister get so much free time that he gets ready for a nine-day trip to China. There are many other important topics in Nepal’s foreign affairs with which the Foreign Minister must deal. Instead of worrying about the safe return of Nepalese citizens stranded in Russia and Ukraine, the Foreign Minister’s nine-day visit to China is looking like a picnic. Nepal government needs to be sensitive in foreign affairs and in diplomatic matters.
