According to the news of nj.com, two female prisoners have become pregnant in the jail. Dan Sperza, Director of Foreign Affairs of the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility, has told that two female prisoners have become pregnant by mutual consent with another female prisoner in jail. According to Dan Sperja, the two female prisoners with whom the female prisoners became pregnant by having a relationship were the first men and became women after the operation.
Sperza has refused to give information about the two women prisoners who are pregnant, saying that the matter is being investigated administratively. Edna Mahan Correctional Facility is the only prison in New Jersey that accommodates only female inmates. After investigation, it has been found that out of all the female prisoners lodged in the jail, 27 are women prisoners who are transgender. Some female prisoners have got their sex changed.
Significantly, in the year 2021, New Jersey came out with a policy that in the state prisons, transgender people will be jailed on the basis of their identity and not their gender based on their birth.
