New Delhi. According to sources, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s party Shiv Sena (UBTI) may extend its support to the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). While no official statement has been issued by any leader of Uddhav Thackeray’s party regarding the Uniform Civil Code, insiders reveal that the Shiv Sena will support the bill if it is introduced in Parliament.
Balasaheb Thackeray had three important dreams – construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya, removal of Article 370 in Kashmir and implementation of Uniform Civil Code across the country. During a press conference on 20 June, Uddhav Thackeray expressed his support for the UCC. He also raised questions in this regard. Shiv Sena (UBTI) MP Sanjay Raut said that no draft of Uniform Civil Code has been presented. So it is wrong to say that we are against it. Shiv Sena under the leadership of Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray will clarify its position after the draft is available.
The Uniform Civil Code aims to bring about a uniform set of laws governing personal matters such as marriage, divorce, inheritance and adoption for all citizens of India, irrespective of their religion. It has long been a subject of debate and discussion, with proponents arguing for gender equality and a harmonious society.
