Khairagarh. Ujjwala Yojana to save the families living below the poverty line from the smoke of the stove and improve their standard of living is now overshadowed by the expensive gas tank. Under the scheme, one cylinder and gas stove were given to the beneficiaries free of cost. So that the kitchen can be operated without smoke from the gas stove. There was special enthusiasm in the rural areas including the city regarding the Ujjwala scheme.
Apart from smoke in the kitchens of the houses in rural areas, non-availability of wood was also becoming a problem for the people. The Ujjwala scheme was widely publicized and it was no less than a boon for those who were living below the poverty line. But now due to the huge increase in the prices of gas cylinders, the gas cylinders and stoves taken under the Ujjwala scheme are gathering dust in the homes of these villagers. Apart from the Ujjwala scheme, the middle class family is also very upset due to the increase in the prices of gas cylinders.
More than 15 thousand beneficiaries got the benefit of the scheme
Under the Ujjwala scheme, gas stove has been distributed to more than 15 thousand beneficiaries in the entire block including the city and rural areas. The price of a gas cylinder during the launch of the scheme was less than half of what it is now. But due to the ever-increasing cylinder prices, most of the households have started shutting down the stoves of the scheme. Cylinders are currently available at the cost of one thousand at the block headquarters. Which got refilled every month is not easy for poor families. In such a situation, the eligible beneficiaries of the scheme have started using the stove again.
Can’t get refilling every month
Under the Ujjwala scheme, gas stoves and cylinders are being distributed continuously to the eligible beneficiaries. Even after this, the beneficiaries taking advantage of the scheme are not able to get their cylinder refilled every month. According to the information received, due to the availability of 1000 cylinders, less than half of the cylinders are being refilled in a month. In such a situation, a large number of people doing commercial work are taking advantage of the cylinders of these beneficiaries. Due to which the implementation of the plan is not being done properly.
The beneficiaries told that they got the gas cylinder and the stove free of cost, but now the cost of filling the cylinder is about one rupee, which is a huge amount for us. Had taken gas connection from Ujjwala scheme, used it for few days but now the price of cylinders has increased significantly and subsidy has also been reduced. That’s why now they have to light a wooden stove, when the price of gas comes down, then food will be made from gas.
