He told that the government has launched Operation Ganga to rescue the stranded Indians from Ukraine. S Jaishankar said that most of the people trapped there are students who had gone to Ukraine for medical studies. He also told that on Monday the Indian government has decided to send four ministers to those countries located on the border of Ukraine, so that they coordinate with those countries for the evacuation of Indians trapped in Ukraine. Special envoys including Union Ministers Hardeep Singh Puri, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Kiren Rijiju and General (Retd) VK Singh will visit neighboring countries of Ukraine to coordinate the evacuation of stranded Indians amid ongoing Russian military operations in Ukraine.
S Jaishankar told in his letter that the Ministry of External Affairs has set up a helpline for the public, on which the families of the people trapped in Ukraine can raise their concerns and complaints. He has also shared the WhatsApp number and e-mail ID of the helpline in the letter.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also informed that separate helplines have also been set up in the Indian embassies located in Romania, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia for those who are coming to these countries to leave Ukraine.
