Russia has been waging war against Ukraine for the past five days. Meanwhile, on Saturday, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed his nuclear force to be on high alert. He ordered his defense minister that nuclear forces should be prepared for provocative speeches by leaders of NATO and EU countries. It was not clear then which leaders Putin was angry about. However, now the Russian Defense Ministry – Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said that Putin’s statement was about the provocative talk of UK Foreign Minister Liz Truss and some other country leaders regarding the Ukraine crisis.
Peskov said Truss had made some disapproved statements about a possible war between NATO and Moscow. However, he did not say which statement of the British foreign minister provoked the Russian president. Significantly, on Sunday, Truss said that if Russia is not stopped, then other countries will also be in danger and it will end through Russia’s conflict with NATO.
What was Liz Truss’s full statement?
Britain’s foreign minister said in an interview to Sky News on Sunday that this struggle (with Russia) is for Europe’s freedom and democracy. If we don’t stop Putin in Ukraine, we have to see the rest in danger. Baltic countries, Poland, Moldova and many more. It will end through conflict with NATO. We don’t want to go there.
Earlier, in a conversation with another channel, he had said that Britain will support those who want to go to Ukraine and fight against Russia. He had said that it would be the people’s own decision to stand with the truth. Truss praised Ukraine and said that it is not a fight of just one country, but of the whole of Europe.
What did Russia say?
Dmitry Peskov said, “Statements were issued on behalf of some representatives sitting in different high positions regarding the confrontation between NATO and Russia. We believe that such statements are absolutely unnecessary. I have nothing to say about those who made such statements.” Wanted, but one such statement came from the UK Foreign Minister.
