Hundreds of students spent many nights without food and drink, with all the efforts to save themselves in the Ukraine crisis. After a lot of difficulties, six students from the embassy managed to survive with just one bowl of rice. Due to the small quantity, we had to survive with only one spoon. The troubles of the students battling the battle to save their lives eased only after crossing the border. Biscuit and water were the only support for vegetarian students as there was only non-vegetarian food to eat in the border areas. If the money ran out, the problems got worse.
These students reached Terminal-3 of IGI Airport on Thursday from Kharkiv. Apart from the parents, other relatives also came to take him. Chirag Antil, a second-year student at Kharkiv’s National Medical University, said that when the situation started deteriorating, he headed to Kyiv to return to India. Six students spent two nights at a school before leaving for the Romania border when a flight was not available. During this there was a lot of problem of food and water.
The situation worsened due to non-availability of cash from banks and ATMs, he said. Somehow spent two nights in a school with the support of the Indian Embassy. During this, in the name of food, only one bowl of rice was given to six friends. To extinguish the fire of the stomach, one spoon each was kept in rice somehow. There was neither toilet facility nor water supply.
Chirag’s father Narendra, a resident of Chhatarpur, told that many times the sounds of explosions were heard even during the conversation on the mobile. Two days later, the students headed to the Romania border. There was also a blast at the airport in Kharkiv, but by that time Chirag had left that city.
Vegetarian students had to survive with biscuits
Gaurav, a student who returned from Kharkiv, said that all the borders including Hungary, especially those students who were not non-vegetarian, found it difficult to eat. While waiting for hours near the border, even if there was anything available to eat, then non-vegetarian. In such a situation, Gaurav and his friends lived on water and biscuits. The students were relieved after crossing the border. There, students were fed food with the support of NGOs, while in Poland and Romania students were provided with essential items including nudes and blankets to spend the cold nights.
