Ahmedabad. Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) Chairman S. Somnath said on Wednesday that ISRO will continue its Chandrayaan series until an astronaut from the country lands on the Moon. The space agency’s Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft made a ‘soft landing’ on the south pole of the Moon in August last year and with this India became the first country to achieve this feat. Somnath told reporters on the sidelines of a program here that ‘Chandrayaan-3 has done a very good job. The data has been collected and scientific publication has just begun.
Somnath said, ‘Now, we want to continue the Chandrayaan series until an Indian lands on the Moon. Before that we will have to gain expertise in many techniques, like going there and coming back. “We are trying to do this in the next mission.” He had come to Ahmedabad as the chief guest at a program organized by the ‘Astronautical Society of India’.

Regarding the country’s first manned space flight mission – Gaganyaan, Somnath said that ISRO will conduct an unmanned mission, a test vehicle mission and an ‘airdrop’ test this year. He said, ‘The airdrop test will take place on April 24. There will be two unmanned missions next year and if everything goes well, there will be a manned mission by the end of next year.
