The people of Uttar Pradesh have paid the highest premium for Atal Pension Yojana (APY), a pension scheme run by the central government for the common people. After this, Maharashtra, Karnataka, West Bengal and Bihar have the highest number of beneficiaries registered in the scheme, which has been revealed in an RTI.
An RTI reply filed by Robin Zachius, a social activist, shows that Uttar Pradesh has contributed a total premium of Rs 2082 crore since the launch of APY (2015-16) so far (till May 2022). Maharashtra has so far paid a total premium of Rs 1939 crores, while Karnataka has paid a premium of Rs 1,6010 crores during this period. West Bengal and Bihar have paid Rs 1572 crore and Rs 1552 crore respectively. Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat are the other large states that have contributed the most to the Atal Pension Yojana. Apart from this, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Kerala, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Haryana and Assam are some other states whose number is between Rs 300 crore and Rs 800 crore.
The least subscribed states and union territories of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Sikkim, Pondicherry, Nagaland, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Chandigarh and Lakshadweep are included in the scheme. It should be noted here that enrollment plays a significant role in the numbers and the population of these states and union territories is less as compared to other states of India.
States like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh are the most populous states in India. Launched in 2015, Atal Pension Yojana is a pension scheme for low-income people and workers of the unorganized sector. APY run by the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) is for people in the age group of 18 to 40 years.
This is done when a person enrolls in this scheme and the premium is based on the amount chosen by him. Subscribers get guaranteed minimum monthly pension of Rs 1,000 or Rs 2,000 or Rs 3,000 or Rs 4,000 or Rs 5,000 at the age of 60. This scheme has been done the most in Uttar Pradesh, followed by Bihar, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh.
